I’m away on holiday at the moment and decided to leave my laptop at home. Hence I’m only travelling with my Galaxy S2

I was thinking of posting a little update on my blog but realised that there doesn’t appear to be any option to upload a gallery of photos, which is really the main way I’d like to express my holiday so far rather than extensive typing on a touch screen.

Will this functionality be considered for the Android app?

Yes, this is on the list of upcoming features. You can track progress here: http://android.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/309

It may be considered for v. 2.2 but it’s not definite just yet.

Sweet. Thanks for the reply. I should have checked that list first but I was being a bit lazy being on my phone ;)

No worries – and kudos for posting from your phone!

Hehe. Took a moment to get it sorted – mainly due to having to sign into PassPack first to check my password for wp.com but the sites works well in Chrome Beta on Android :)

I think I’ll just post a chronological blog post punctuated with photos instead of a gallery.

That would be a nice work-around for the time being.

It occurred to me that I could test out the capabilities of Chrome Beta and I logged into the normal admin area and was able to publish a gallery from there. It wasn’t simple but it did work (I couldn’t switch to the gallery tab in the thickbox but was able to upload, one by one, a bunch of photos).

Nice. Of course you could just access your dashboard from within the app (at least if self-hosted).

Ah yes, I forgot about that option. Still can’t get the gallery tab in the thickbox to work. No worries though, good to have gotten the gallery posted.

There is a (not so easy) workaround for this in the current version that I’ve done. You add all of the images to the post, then upload it as a draft. Then edit the post and delete all of the image tags, and replace them with the

      '[gallery]'

      tag and save the post.

Ah, good thinking – hadn’t thought of that but it does make sense to me. I think for general users it would be awesome to be able to just go into the app, have an option to ‘add gallery’ and then multi-select items from phone camera and upload. Really especially useful for people on vacation.

I’ve got a minor request to make: would it be possible to relocate the WordPress app storage folder so that it resides within the default ‘data’ folder on the Android file system? It would make a for a neater folder structure for me :)

I’d love to see the app not notify me of my own comments. Presumably this would be possible by checking the author id against the id of the user logged in on the app?

I don’t think the comment object returned has the user id, just the email address. I’ll double check though as it’s pretty annoying to get notified of your own comments.

That’d be great. I’ve always found it odd that I got notified of my own comments and hopefully the email addresses can be matched to ignore comments from self. Don’t know if it would be different for wp.com accounts.

Following the launch of the Google+ android app I’ve found myself consistently posting mobile photos entirely due to the existence of Instant Upload. It just works away in the background, tells you a photo is uploaded and, well, why not post it, it’s sitting there ready to go.

I wonder whether this sort of functionality is possible with the WordPress app – I think if WordPress quietly uploaded all my mobile phone photos in the background I’d find myself posting a lot more of these posts on my self-hosted site.

Obviously it would have to be opt-in functionality, what with bandwidth considerations and battery drain etc, but I know I’d opt-in instantly.

Can WordPress for Android support permalink editing in the future? It’s important in non-English-speaking country. And why forces splash screen portrait? I think you could add layout-land option.

Hi. I would like to use a picture as a Thumbnail. I think it is impossible right now. It could be a very useful feature.

Sorry, my mistake. I’ll post my request on the forum

    Hey there,

Wondering is it possible to stop the App from notifying you about your own comments. I run a number of self-hosted blogs, and my main personal blog gets comments every once in a while. Whether I’m at my computer or replying through the excellent Android App, some time after I’ve commented I get a notification from the app that there’s a new comment. I go to check it out, excited that I’ve received another comment, and then realise it’s my own comment.

I assume it would be possible to prevent notifications of your own user’s comments?

Great work on the app though, love it!

    Cheers,
    Alex

Also, apologies if this isn’t the place to lodge feature requests. If it’s not please point me in the right direction!

Sounds like a great idea, I’m pretty sure we can do that by matching the admin’s email address with the email address in the comment. Problem is that we don’t grab the email address in the app currently.

We do have a requests forum but this blog works too.

Sorry for the delay in replying, things went a bit manic with work stuff. Would be savage if it could be implemented.

So for this to work correctly, when logging in for the first time the app would have to query the email address of the username that logged in through the app, and in future it would not notify for comments from that email address (in the same way that WordPress doesn’t email notification of your own comments).

Obviously it would have to work on a per user basis in case of multiple users on the site (I’d still want to be notified of an admin’s comment if I was an editor on someone else’s site).

Next time I’ll post over at http://android.forums.wordpress.org/ :)
